Old thunderbird versions download

Edited email address from public to help keep spambots from finding it and nobody here would contact email address posted in public. This new version 38 of Tbird not working on my computer either.

In the middle of the day it stops being able to download new messages. I see new em on my iphone, but not in Tbird. Is there a way to correct it? Would rather go back to older version that works.
